Surfing

Red Buff www.laketyersbeach.net.au Red Bluff is a very popular location with local surfers.  It is a small rocky headland that seems to heighten the surf and can provide a good opportunity to catch a wave.  The area is unpatrolled and carries a degree of risk even for experienced surfers.  Weather conditions can change quickly in Bass Strait and people need be "on the alert" for sudden changes in both weather and sea conditions.  There is a good carpark in a sheltered spot on the top of the dune and then just a short walk down to the beach.  The weather observations available from this site, combined with other information from other government sites can be handy in predicting what the swell may be doing on any one day.

One of the popular events in the surfing calendar is the Red Bluff Surf Classic.  Here are a few shots taken at the time of the 2009 event.

Here is what they come for, however a rather quiet day overall.  Maybe it will blow up tomorrow.  This is the view from the lookout at the carpark.

A memorial to one surfer who lost his life at this beach and a memorial to Wayne "Goat" Davies, a fan of the Bluff, who was taken too early by cancer.
